I am Aqeelah. I am a nature lover, wannabe-homesteader and a mother of three. I had one hospital birth and two home births. After my first home birth, I became slightly obsessed with birth and studied to become a birth doula and I am currently studying to become a midwife. But It was then that I realised that the postpartum period is so neglected, there is so much preparation for the birth but not for the postpartum period when the mother needs care and support the most. The mother needs to be mothered too. She needs care and nurturing. 

 

What is important to me when caring for a mother during the postpartum period is to listen to her, feed her nourishing foods, prepare herbal baths and reassure her when she is overwhelmed. I understand what it is like to be exhausted after birth, have no support and to be overwhelmed with it all. I would love to support and care for mothers in a way that I wish I was supported.

 

I work in Cape Town, Southern Suburbs. Additional services that I offer are cloth nappy and baby-wearing consultations.
