Justine Cook

I am a mother, doula, childbirth educator and certifying postpartum care provider. I support birthing people and their families at all stages of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, but have a special place in my heart for the early postpartum period. During this time your body is recovering after growing and birthing a baby, you’re getting to know your baby, your family dynamics are shifting, and your hormones are on their own wild rollercoaster ride. It is a crazy and beautiful time. And it is a time that you won’t get back. I believe that taking this opportunity to truly slow down, recover, adjust and bond with your baby, will help set you up for a more positive journey as a parent, whether it’s your first, second or fifth time. My role is to support you so that you can do just that.

My services are generally in the form of daily in-person visits in the first week/s after birth, but can be personalised based on your needs. While you are the expert on your body, your mind and your baby, I am trained to provide practical and emotional support, guidance on what to expect in terms of postpartum recovery, knowledge of basic postpartum care, nutrition, an understanding of normal newborn behaviour, basic breast/chestfeeding support and referrals for specialist help. I have also trained in pregnancy and infant loss bereavement and can support parents who are faced with postpartum recovery even if they haven’t brought a baby home.

I co-host regular gatherings at my home in Cape Town (Southern Suburbs) that offer a relaxed, safe and inclusive space for people to connect and share experiences, plans and expectations around pregnancy, birth & early parenting.

*I am experienced in postpartum care and am currently in the process of completing the required hours to gain full certification as a PPCP.
